What is the Wim Hof Method?
The Wim Hof Method is a combination of breathing exercises paired with cold therapy and dedicated practice. The practical application can help with pain management for a variety of ailments.
Cryotherapy is a core pillar of the Wim Hof Method. Those that know Wim Hof, ‘The Iceman’, also know that his astounding techniques have been studied by scientists to better understand how to induce conscious autonomic nervous system responses.
Beginning in 2007, researchers have studied how Wim Hof has managed to help improve his immune response to external pathogens. Importantly cryotherapy has shown proven benefits for those who suffer from inflammation. Everyone, from athletes to those with inflammatory diseases, has found that cryotherapy can help reduce inflammation.

Thermogenesis Training
If you’re interested in the Wim Hof method, cryotherapy is perfect for you. WHM typically recommends starting with cold showers. Our treatment system is perfect for almost everyone*. For just three minutes, your body will reach sub zero degree temperatures and this is where all the benefits will take effect.
Just like the Wim Hof Method our Cryotherapy facility will give you more energy, boost your immune system, help you sleep better, helps with workout recovery and has a natural anti-inflammatory effect.
The Wim Hof Method stresses the importance of appropriate breathing, sometimes called Tummo breathing. With the proper breathing techniques, you can raise your internal body temperature, also known as thermogenesis.
After learning to control your breathing, and improve thermogenesis, why not come down to our Romsey Cryotherapy facility.
How Does It Work?
The benefits of the Wim Hof Method are a balance between deep breathing and cryotherapy. While cryotherapy was initially developed as a treatment for those with arthritis, this rapid cooling system helps reduce inflammation and chronic pain.
The Wim Hof Method specifically is a combination of extremely cold temperatures and deep breathing, sometimes called power breathing or controlled hyperventilation. This type of breathing exercise can raise your internal body temperature and allow your muscles to relax, leading to better sleep.

Once your cryotherapy treatment is over, you will instantly start to feel like you can take on the world, run a marathon, while your body starts to warm itself up and undergoes its metabolic reaction rushing oxygen rich blood and endorphins back through your body. What is the Wim Hof cold method?
The Wim Hof cold method introduces your body to extreme cold temperatures by degrees. Initially, you begin the cold method by ending your showers in cold water. As you build up a tolerance, your showers can become colder and colder.
Fortunately, with cryotherapy, you don’t need to build up a tolerance. Our sessions are a mere three minutes at -120°C. If you’re in Hampshire, come down to our Romsey facility and speak with our team.
-
Which is more important: cryotherapy or deep breathing?
We find that the combination of both cryotherapy and deep breathing can substantially reduce inflammation and improve immune responses.
-
How does mindset relate to breathing and cryotherapy?
According to Wim Hof, ‘the mind is the total of thoughts and feelings’. When confronting the cold, it’s important to have a positive mindset to control your autonomous responses. Following the breath is important in controlling your response to the cold. At Cryofix, you only need to focus on the three minutes of cryotherapy.

Can I use cryotherapy or the Wim Hof Method if I’m pregnant?
We do not recommend either cryotherapy or the Wim Hof Method if you are pregnant. Unfortunately, our chambers are full body cryotherapy treatments, which can be dangerous for pregnant women.
*Cryotherapy is not for everyone. We do not recommend those with certain pre-existing conditions try cryotherapy. Please review our list of health conditions before starting.
